Learners
pursuing programming through McMaster University Centre for Continuing
Education may be eligible to apply previously completed coursework to
their program of study, as per below:
Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate
Option A:
Learners entering the Payroll
Compliance Practitioner Certificate, who have completed Payroll Compliance Legislation,
and/or Payroll Fundamentals 1, and/or Payroll Fundamentals 2, online directly/solely through the
Canadian Payroll Association, may be eligible to apply the 3 courses to the
Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certificate for a maximum of three transfer
credits (9 units). NOTE: PCL, PF1 and/or PF2 completed through a college or university, do not qualify for this option and are not eligible for transfer credit.
or
Option B:
Learners who have completed
equivalent coursework in business communications or financial accounting may
be eligible to apply for a maximum of one transfer credit (3 units).
NOTE: Learners may apply and
qualify for only one of the above options.

As per McMaster University Senate policy (May 2017), a course can
be used no more than two times towards a McMaster University
credential. At McMaster, the term credential refers to a certificate, a
certificate of completion, a diploma, a MyOWNMcMaster milestone, and an
undergraduate degree.

Certificate in Canadian Payroll Management
Option A:
Students
pursuing the Certificate in Canadian Payroll Management program, who have
completed Introduction to Payroll Management and/or Applied
Payroll Management online directly/solely through the Canadian Payroll Association, may be
eligible to apply both courses to the McMaster Certificate in Canadian Payroll
Management for a maximum of two transfer credits (6 units). NOTE: Intro Payroll Management and/or Applied Payroll Management completed through a college or university do not qualify for this option and are not eligible for transfer credit.
or
Option B:
Students who
have completed equivalent coursework in introductory management accounting,
business finance and accounting, compensation or organizational behaviour may
be eligible to apply for a maximum of one transfer credit (3 units).
NOTE: Learners may apply and
qualify for only one of the above options.

Transfer Credit Eligibility
Approved transfer credit will be
approved by the Program Manager based on the following criteria:
- courses must have an 80% overlap in content/curricula and a similar number of classroom or contact hours;
- courses must have been taken within the last five years;
- courses must have been taken from an accredited academic institution and listed on an official transcript with a grade of 65% or better.
Submission Requirements
In order to
assess your transfer credit request, please submit the following documents:
- name and course number of the
external course(s) that you wish to be assessed for transfer credit and
the name and course number of the CCE course(s) that you would like credit
for;
- an official transcript,
demonstrating your completion of the course(s) and your final grade(s);
- full course
outline(s) (i.e. course description, course objectives, assessment
criteria, textbook, weekly content covered);
- transfer credit requests can be
submitted electronically to payrollcertificate@mcmaster.ca or
by hard copy.

It may take 4-6 weeks to assess your transfer credit request.
