Certified Green Belt Project

*Prerequisite: “Green Belt” Certificate of Completion

This course incorporates an employer-sponsored and McMaster mentored project that builds upon the knowledge gained in the initial Certificate of Completion program. It provides participants with an opportunity to apply their knowledge to complete a “Certified Green Belt Project” course at their workplace with coaching and mentorship from a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

  • You identify a sponsor (Supervisor or other) and a suitable project with your employer that delivers a meaningful benefit to the organization;
  • Master Black Belt instructor works with you to develop an individualized action plan, with timelines;
  • You execute the action plan, report your progress, and receive ongoing feedback and evaluation from the Master Black Belt;
  • You submit a “Personal Journey Report” in which you reflect on your personal development in the context of the project;
  • Access to Master Black Belt coaching throughout project (2.5 hours).
Projects must be approved by the Program Manager and Master Black Belt. Participant work for the project and report must meet a minimum of 35 hours to receive a Certificate of Completion for the course.

Personal Competency Development

2-3 areas of personal development will be identified following the completion of the initial Certificate of Completion program, and through dialogue with the Master Black Belt. These areas of development will be incorporated into the individualized project plan, and may include:

  • analytical and logical thinking in complex situations;
  • written & formal communication;
  • strategic thinking;
  • interpersonal skills;
  • team skills;
  • change management;
  • managing upper management;
  • self-confidence;
  • results orientation; and,
  • planning and self management.
