Application Procedure


Application Deadlines

For a Fall 2021 Start:

  • Applications open: May 5, 2021
  • Applications close: September 4, 2021

For a Winter 2022 Start:

  • Applications open: September 15, 2021
  • Applications close: January 1, 2022

For a Spring 2022 Start:

  • Applications open: January 12, 2022
  • Applications close: April 23, 2022

Applicants must submit their application using our Online Application Portal located here. Applicants should review the detailed admission requirements before submitting the application in order to review what documentation is required.  

Application Process 

You will need the following items*:

  • Current resume (Word Doc. or PDF)
  • 1-page letter of intent
  • Official/copy of academic transcripts (PDF); or letter from employer
  • Credit /debit card to submit payment

Professional Addiction Studies Program



Submit an application using our Online Application Portal located here

  1. Within the McMaster student application portal, create an Application account, if you do not already have a MAC ID.
  2. Identify the specific program to which you want to apply. 
  3. Select the term in which you wish to begin your studies (i.e. Fall 2017).  If the program is not offered in the term you selected, or if the program is no longer accepting students, a notice will be shown.

4. Upload a Current Resume.

5. Upload a 1-2 page letter stating:

  • previous training and experience in the helping field;
  • your assessment of your learning needs; and,
  • why you think this program will help you meet your learning needs.

The purpose of the letter is to help us assess program fit.

6. Upload one of the following supporting documents as proof of your eligibility:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, or college diploma in a related field. Relevant fields of study include psychology, social work, health, social sciences, public health, community and social services, child and youth studies.

  • A minimum of 2 years full-time (4,000 hours) supervised experience in fields such as addiction, mental health, social and community services, nursing, law enforcement/criminal justice, or first responders.

7. Save the information on the application pages before you proceed to the next item.

8. $59 non-refundable application fee. (Payable by credit or debit online).

9. After paying application fee, you must ensure you submit your application. 

You will receive an email notifying you of the application admission decision after the application data has been reviewed.

If you wish to pay by cheque, contact CCE staff to request a paper application which you may submit by mail, with payment. Your application will not be processed until payment is received. 

You will be advised through email of your admittance to the program within two weeks of receiving a complete application package. Please do not use Hotmail email addresses to apply.
